Onegai! SamiadonBased on an original children’s literature Five Children and It by English author, Edith Nesbit, it was broadcast from April 2, 1985 to February 4, 1986. In recent years, the digitally remastered version was broadcast on TOKYO MX in 2015 and is an anime beloved for many years. In the original work, the main character’s name is “Psammead” but this was changed to “Samiadon” in the animated version.The sand fairy Samiadon, who always wears a triangular hat and hates when children cry, is able to use magic to grant just one wish a day until the sun goes down.Having just moved to a house in the suburbs, the Turner family’s four children encounter this strange fairy Samiadon who grants their various wishes.However, after their wishes are granted, a problem infallibly occurs. Each time, Samiadon complains about the siblings’ selfish behavior while helping them, even showing himself at times.Osamu Kobayashi is the chief director of this piece that depicts the everyday life of this curious and kind fairy and the troubled, yet comical siblings. He is known for works such as Magical Angel Creamy Mami and Kimagure Orange Road. The screenplay was developed by a team including Ryo Motohira known for works such as Doraemon and Mami the Psychic and Chifude Asakura of Glass Mask and Maple Town Stories to represent the heartwarming original children‘s story in this anime. |
